Who We Are?

OR Concepts Applied (ORCA), a corporation founded in 1989, is devoted to excellence in algorithm development and software engineering. ORCA provides technical services and software products for applications of operations research methods.

ORCA’s original specialty was building mission planning and route optimization software for low observable (LO) aircraft. Early successes included the development of a single sortie route planner and a tool for allocating multiple aircraft to a collection of targets. The tools we built were useful to analysts as well as operators.

What We Do?

OR Concepts Applied is a software development and technical services firm that applies Operations Research concepts and methods to real and projected problems. The founding team was a group of engineers with backgrounds in Operations Research (OR), Computer Science, and mathematics. Our primary business area began as military aircraft mission planning. We expanded to related areas including workstation design for command and control of unmanned systems and cyber assets.

What is Operations Research?

Operations Research (or just OR) is the discipline of applying advanced analytical methods to help make better decisions. Sometimes OR is called the mathematics of decision making. Academically, it is a cross between mathematics, computer science, and management science. Historically, it can be traced back to multidisciplinary efforts of mathematicians, engineers, physicists, and military professionals working on winning World War II.
